Renowned activist Boniface Mwangi has once again found himself at the centre of fear and intimidation after discovering a bullet in his bag — a message he says was meant to silence him.
The outspoken human rights defender, known for his fearless criticism of corruption and abuse of power, took to social media to expose what he called “a direct threat” to his life.
“Death threats are not new to me and my family, but the current regime has taken it to a new low,” Mwangi said, his voice laced with both defiance and fatigue.
For years, he has been a thorn in the flesh of powerful figures, often speaking truth to power even when it puts his safety at risk.
The discovery of the bullet has sparked outrage among Kenyans and rights organisations, who are demanding a swift and transparent investigation. Many fear that such threats signal a worrying return to the dark days when dissenting voices were silenced through intimidation.
Despite the danger, Mwangi insists he will not be cowed. “They can threaten me, but they can’t kill the truth,” he said — a reminder of the heavy price of activism in Kenya.
