A family in Siaya County was plunged into grief after a married woman travelling home for the Christmas holiday was found dead under disturbing circumstances.
Rachel Adhiambo, a resident of Vihiga County, had travelled from Kisumu on Friday evening after attending her graduation ceremony at Kabarak University in Nakuru.
She was returning home to celebrate Christmas with her family when her journey was cut short.
She was last seen arriving at Bondo stage at about ten at night before boarding a bodaboda to take her home, a journey of about thirty kilometres.
Family members had expressed concern about her travelling by motorcycle at night and were already making arrangements to pick her up.
When plans to meet failed, worry grew as communication became unclear.
Her sister became alarmed after learning that Rachel and the rider were reportedly stranded on a rough road, raising fears that something was wrong.
The following day, her husband travelled from Vihiga to Bondo Hospital in search of answers.
Police later contacted the family and confirmed that her body had been discovered about two hundred metres from the Usenge-Bondo highway.
The body was found by passersby, and investigations indicated that she had been attacked, robbed of her belongings and killed.
Her mobile phone and other personal items were missing.
Rachel was a mother of two and served as a legal officer with the Vihiga County Government.
Police launched investigations and appealed to members of the public for information that could help identify those responsible.
The community was left mourning a life lost during what should have been a season of joy.
