Tension as Gunmen Storm Police Station, Shoot Police Officer During 20-Minute Night Attack

A police officer is recovering in hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound during a brazen attack on the Soradoru police post in Maralal, Samburu County.

The incident occurred late at night when armed assailants opened fire on two officers manning a security barrier.

According to police reports, the officers were forced to seek cover as gunshots rang out for more than 20 minutes. Amid the chaos, one officer was hit in the right thigh and later reported his injury after the attackers had retreated.

Authorities say the motive behind the assault remains unclear, but initial investigations suggest the gunmen may have been shielding accomplices involved in livestock theft. It is suspected that the attackers were part of a larger group driving away stolen animals during the ambush.

The injured officer was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who fled the scene under the cover of darkness.

Security has since been heightened in the region, with additional personnel deployed to reinforce patrols and safeguard local communities. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
