A grieving mother from Kiganjo, Nyeri County, has been thrown into mourning after losing her eldest daughter, Annette Wangui, following a long and painful battle with cancer.
The family faced additional tragedy when Nyambura lost her husband in a road accident in March 2024 while three months pregnant.
Earlier, she had also lost a sister in 2023.
The family is struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss.
Monicah Nyambura has been left with two young children following the death of her daughter in early December.
Nyambura emotionally narrated how she lost her eldest child to a dangerous disease, leaving her in unprecedented pain.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the single mum from Nyeri shared the medical journey of her daughter and explained the last moments she spent with her.
Wangui, 22, fell ill in February 2023 while studying for a certificate in nursing and German at Omicare Training Institute in Nairobi.
Her condition worsened despite treatment at multiple hospitals.
Tests revealed she had acute myeloid leukaemia, a rare form of blood cancer.
Nyambura explained how her daughter went through several cycles of chemotherapy and briefly stabilised.
Despite financial and emotional burdens, Nyambura sought help online to continue her daughter’s treatment, even attempting to raise funds for a bone marrow transplant abroad.
Doctors later informed her that Wangui’s condition was terminal.
Nyambura said that the day before her daughter’s death, Wangui asked her not to leave her side and admitted she was scared.
She could not stay overnight due to hospital rules, but Wangui gave her mother her phone and all her PINs, saying she would speak to anyone important the following day.
Nyambura described that as the last time she saw her daughter alive.
Wangui passed away the next day in the hospital, leaving her mother and siblings heartbroken.
The burial is took place on Thursday, December 11, but the family is still struggling to raise the remaining funds.
