Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has received a setback after MPs from his county rejected his 2027 bid.
The MPs have declared their full support for President William Ruto’s second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers, led by Maurice Kakai Bisau, the Kiminini Constituency lawmaker, said their support for President Ruto is based on his track record and achievements in his first term.
Natembeya is increasingly positioning himself as the face of Western Kenya’s political reawakening, using voter registration drives as a platform to call for a radical shift in the region’s leadership.
Through his Tawe Movement, he is seeking to galvanise Western Kenya into a voting bloc that could upend traditional political alignments.
His sharp criticism of existing Luhya leaders, whom he accuses of “misusing the community politically,” is seen as a direct challenge to established figures like Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Just recently, Natembeya was crowned as an elder in Vihiga county, Mudavadi’s home turf, a symbolic move that has fuelled speculation about his ambitions beyond Trans Nzoia.
He explained that the opposition would not remain silent if certain leaders attempt to weaken their camp ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He warned that the government might attempt to sponsor some leaders as a way of destabilising the opposition. He assured Kenyans that the truth about such candidates will not be hidden for long.
This comes amid Ruto’s plan to woo his staunch critics to his camp with his bag of goodies the latest political leader to join the broad-based arrangement being the Kenya African National Union (KANU) chairman, Gideon Moi.
