Former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy has passed away, sending shockwaves through Kakamega County and the broader Western Kenya region.
Several politicians and close associates of the late MP confirmed the news on Tuesday morning, with notable figures sending condolences to his family.
“Another tree has fallen. The larger Lugari has lost. We have been plunged into mourning again,” said ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, noting that Dr. Kibunguchy’s death comes even before the burial of former Lugari MP and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo, whom Dr. Kibunguchy succeeded in the 2002 General Election.
Dr. Kibunguchy died at an Eldoret hospital on Monday night after a period of illness, leaving behind a legacy of public service and dedication.
Following the announcement, several politicians took to social media to express their grief.
Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa said:
“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Hon. Dr. Enock Kibunguchy, a humble, knowledgeable, and approachable former Likuyani MP. May God grant his family the strength to bear this loss.”
Former Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu added:
“R.I.P Mheshimiwa Enock Kibunguchy, former MP Lugari Constituency.”
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa described Dr. Kibunguchy as a visionary:
“I extend my condolences following the passing of Dr. Enock Kibunguchy, former Likuyani MP. He was a visionary leader who laid a strong foundation for the growth of Likuyani. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and the people of Likuyani during this period of mourning.”

Before entering elective politics, Dr. Kibunguchy was a medical doctor, serving in roles such as Assistant Director of Medical Services at Eldoret District Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, and the Ministry of Health.
He first entered politics by succeeding Cyrus Jirongo as the Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency following the 2002 General Election, serving one term from 2003 to 2007.
