Kind Kenyans Contribute Over KSh 200k For Struggling Mombasa Mother of 3 And Her Nanny Pay School Fees

Kenyans have once again shown the strength of unity and kindness after raising more than KSh 200,000 to support a struggling single mother in Mombasa and help her nanny’s children return to school next year.

The touching story of Gladys, a female taxi driver and mother of three, captured the hearts of many after it was shared online by popular news anchor Shiksha Arora.

Gladys’ emotional journey highlighted the daily struggles faced by many working mothers trying to survive against overwhelming odds.

Gladys has been working as a taxi driver since 2021, but despite her hard work, life has not been easy.

She revealed that she is a single mother of three children from different relationships, all of which failed. Her most recent relationship left her with an 18-month-old baby and no support from the child’s father.

Speaking openly, Gladys narrated how she believed she was headed for marriage after her former partner introduced her to his parents. However, her hopes were shattered when the man later blocked her and moved on.

“I knew things had changed when I saw him on TikTok introducing another woman as his partner,” she said.

With no financial support and mounting bills, Gladys was forced to return to work when her baby was just three months old.

Leaving her infant behind was painful, but she had no other option if she was to provide food, rent, and school fees for her children.

Her story went viral after Shiksha Arora shared it on social media, prompting Kenyans from all walks of life to step in and help.

Many reached out asking how they could support Gladys, and within a short time, contributions began pouring in.

In a follow-up update, Arora confirmed that over KSh 200,000 had been raised through public donations.

The funds brought immediate relief to Gladys, who had been struggling to keep up with her car loan payments — a major burden that threatened her only source of income.

Thanks to the donations, Gladys was able to clear a significant portion of the loan, allowing her to continue working without fear of losing her vehicle

Even more touching was her decision to use part of the money to pay school fees for her nanny’s children, ensuring they can attend school for at least one term in the coming year.

Overwhelmed by the support, the 40-year-old mother broke down in tears as she expressed her gratitude.

“This will be the first Christmas I will truly enjoy,” she said.

“For months, the stress of debt has weighed me down. Now I can breathe again.”

Gladys added that the kindness shown by strangers had renewed her hope and given her strength to face the new year with confidence.

“I’m starting the year with peace of mind. That alone is a blessing,” she shared.

Kenyans online praised Gladys for her selflessness, especially her decision to think about her nanny’s children during such a difficult time. Many said her actions reflected a rare sense of compassion and humility.

“This woman is truly blessed. Thinking of someone else’s children while struggling herself shows a pure heart,” one social media user commented.

Another added, “May God send such angels into our lives too. Some of us are carrying heavy burdens silently.”
