Former interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i is the man on a mission to dislodge President William Ruto from power.
Though he is a political green-horn, but Dr Matiang'i seems to be learning very fast, thanks to the guidance of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and seasoned politicians around him.
Dr Matiang'i has already hit the road running, setting stage for a major political showdown in 2027.
Amid reports of sharp divisions in the United Opposition over alleged bad political blood between Dr Matiang'i and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the Jubilee Party deputy leader has gravitated to a new camp that has Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua and ex- cabinet minister Dr Mukhisa Kituyi.
There is a general feeling that Dr Matiang'i is so far doing a good job in selling his agenda and popularizing his State House bid.
If he picks the right choice of a running mate, then the former CS may end up emerging as a serious threat to Ruto's reelection bid.
Having lit up the political arena, Natembeya is now becoming a household name.
The fiery County chief is determined to dislodge National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi from Western Kenya politics.
If he achieves this, then many believe that Natembeya will be ripe to be Matiang'i's running mate.
A Matiang'i- Natembeya ticket will no doubt be a political force to reckon. And if they play their cards well, Matiang'i can pull a shocker and clinch the presidency in 2027.
