“Raila Told Me He’d Back Ruto in 2027” Oketch Salah’s Claims Ignite Political Storm

Political circles were stirred this week after Oketch Salah, described as Raila Odinga’s adopted son, made explosive claims touching on the former Prime Minister’s alleged succession plans and internal dynamics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking in a public forum, Salah alleged that he spent considerable time with Raila Odinga in recent years and held candid conversations with him about the country’s political future.

According to Salah, Raila privately indicated that he would be willing to support President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, a position that sharply contrasts with ODM’s current posture as the leading opposition party.

Salah further claimed that Raila had grown increasingly suspicious of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, alleging that the ODM Secretary-General was “working for someone else” with the intention of weakening the party from within.

He alleged that Raila believed Sifuna would eventually “mess himself up,” suggesting that the party leader was content to let internal contradictions play out rather than intervene directly.

These remarks have triggered intense debate among ODM supporters and the wider political class.

Allies of Raila Odinga were quick to urge caution, noting that the veteran opposition leader is alive, politically active, and has not publicly endorsed President Ruto or issued any statement backing such claims.

They argue that any assertions about Raila’s private intentions should be treated as unverified opinions rather than established fact.

On the other hand, critics say the claims, whether accurate or not, expose simmering tensions within ODM as the party navigates succession politics and prepares for the post-Raila era.

Senator Sifuna has previously positioned himself as a reformist voice within the party, a stance that has occasionally put him at odds with the old guard.

As things stand, ODM has not issued an official response to Salah’s remarks.

Until Raila Odinga or the party leadership speaks directly on the matter, the claims remain allegations—fuel for political speculation in a country already bracing for the long road to 2027.
