“Stop Judging Ruto Just Because He’s Not Kikuyu” MP Kaluma Tells Kenyans in Defence of President

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has stirred heated public debate with a bold defence of President William Ruto, claiming the Head of State is facing tribal bias simply because he is not from the Kikuyu community.

In a series of strongly worded posts on X (formerly Twitter), Kaluma declared that President Ruto has performed better than his predecessors—Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta—particularly in reviving the economy.

“The economy was on its knees when Ruto took over. He has worked hard to stabilize it,” Kaluma said.

The legislator credited Ruto for tackling ballooning public debt, attracting foreign investment, and cutting down government spending.

Kaluma also praised the current administration’s more inclusive approach to public appointments, arguing that it better reflects the diversity of the nation.

But it was his direct confrontation of tribal politics that captured the most attention. Kaluma accused powerful elements within the Mt. Kenya region of undermining the president simply because he does not belong to the Kikuyu community—a group that has dominated Kenya’s leadership since independence.

“Kenyatta, Kibaki, and Uhuru were all Kikuyu. But Ruto is not. And that’s why he is being judged more harshly,” Kaluma wrote.

“People are already planning to sabotage him.”

He warned that tribalism is once again rearing its head in Kenya’s political landscape and urged citizens to resist such narratives.

“Let’s be fair. If Ruto is doing good, let’s support him. Don’t bring him down just because he is not Kikuyu,” Kaluma pleaded.

The MP’s comments come amid growing unrest and anti-government protests across the country, driven by public frustration over taxes and the high cost of living.

But Kaluma argued that some of the opposition is less about policy failures and more about entrenched tribal politics.

Calling for patience and unity, Kaluma said Ruto deserves time to implement his vision for the country.

“Kenya belongs to all of us. Let us not return to the days of tribal hate and political sabotage,” he concluded.
