The investigation into the road crash that killed former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has taken a decisive turn after CCTV footage directly contradicted the account given by the driver of the involved Climax bus.
The driver had initially stated he attempted to avoid the collision and fled the scene post-impact.
However, footage obtained by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) paints a starkly different picture, showing the bus ramming into Jirongo’s car with what officials describe as "immense force."
This visual evidence has fundamentally altered the probe’s trajectory. Investigators report that the impact was so severe it pushed Jirongo’s vehicle approximately 25 metres along the road.
This detail has raised serious questions about the bus's speed, braking action, and the driver's awareness at the critical moment.
In a parallel development, CCTV from a nearby petrol station helped reconstruct Jirongo’s final movements, confirming he had briefly stopped at the station but left without refuelling shortly before the fatal collision.
Confronted with the contradictory evidence, the Climax bus driver has been ordered to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base for intensive questioning.
Authorities have confirmed he is now under active investigation for the potential charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
“The driver’s earlier statement will be re-examined alongside the CCTV footage, vehicle inspection reports, and witness accounts,” a DCI official stated. With public pressure for accountability mounting, the DCI has assured a thorough and strictly evidence-led investigation.
The emergence of the footage has significantly deepened legal troubles for the driver, casting grave doubt on his initial version of events and moving the inquiry toward a potential criminal prosecution.
