Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly endorsed ODM Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna to seek a second term as Nairobi Senator – but only if he aligns himself with the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua’s unexpected support for the opposition figure is turning heads and raising eyebrows across the political spectrum.
Gachagua reassured Sifuna with a statement that sent ripples through the crowd:
“Wewe Sifuna mambo yako iko sawa, hapo Nairobi sioni mambo yako ikiharibika” (Sifuna, your affairs are in order, I don’t see anything going wrong for you in Nairobi).
These words appeared to give the ODM Senator the green light to continue his political career in Nairobi, where he has garnered significant support.
Gachagua’s endorsement was seen as powerful political gesture, especially given his long-standing association with the ruling Jubilee Party.
However, the former DP didn’t stop there. He went on to warn Sifuna, issuing a cryptic message about the dangers of aligning with President William Ruto:
"Mambo yalo itaharibika tu ukienda kwa Kasongo (Ruto’s nickname) na tutakukimbiza kama baiskeli ya kuibiwa" (Things will go wrong for you if you go to Ruto, and we will chase you like a stolen bicycle).
The phrase "Kasongo," referring to President Ruto’s nickname, is a clear warning about potential pitfalls if Sifuna joins the government side.
The comments have set tongues wagging, as they signal a deepening rift within the political elite ahead of 2027.
