Panic as Man Allegedly Kills Wife for Returning Home Late, Buries Her Behind House

Shock and sadness have hit the people of Songambele Village in Shinyanga, Tanzania, after a 54-year-old man, Chimaguli Samamba, allegedly took the life of his wife, Moshi John, following a domestic quarrel.

According to police reports, the couple had been living together for years, but tension had been growing between them. 

The final argument reportedly began when Moshi returned home late one evening. Neighbours say it was not the first time the two had fought.

Shinyanga Regional Police Commander Janeth Magomi confirmed the incident, saying the man brutally beat his wife until she died. 

In panic, Samamba is said to have dragged the body outside and buried it in a pit that was being dug for a latrine, just behind their house.

For several days, no one saw Moshi around the homestead. Her friends and neighbours became suspicious because she was known to be social and active in the village. 

When they noticed her absence, they reported to the village chairman, Lazaro Enock, who later involved the police.

Police officers arrived and questioned the husband, but he at first denied knowing where his wife was. After more questioning, he broke down and confessed to killing her and hiding her body. 

The police, together with locals, later exhumed the body from the pit and took it to Shinyanga District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The suspect has since been arrested and is expected to face murder charges in court. Commander Magomi urged couples to seek peaceful ways to solve family problems instead of resorting to violence.

This heartbreaking story reminded me of a similar case I once wrote about—a man who also acted out of anger and ended up destroying his own life. Such tragedies show how dangerous anger can become when love turns into rage.

Online users reacted with disbelief and sadness, condemning the act and calling for men to handle disagreements calmly. One comment read, “No reason can justify taking someone’s life. Once you act in anger, you lose everything.”
