Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has finally spoken out after claims emerged that he was behind online attacks on the Odinga family.
The claims suggested that social media commentator Scophine Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, was acting on Babu’s instructions when she posted harsh comments about the Odinga family on X (formerly Twitter).
In a statement released on Monday, December 15, Babu strongly denied the claims.
He said that Aoko is his friend and supporter, but she speaks and acts on her own.
According to Babu, he has never told her what to post online and has never asked her to attack anyone, including the Odinga family.
Babu explained that many people wrongly assume that every post Aoko makes reflects his views.
He said this is not true because Aoko is an independent person with her own opinions and sources of information. He made it clear that he does not control her actions on social media.
The MP also addressed claims that Aoko’s posts were meant to insult Mama Ida Odinga. He firmly stated that he would never disrespect Mama Ida or her family.
Babu said he has a good personal relationship with Raila Odinga’s children, including Raila Odinga Junior, Winnie Odinga, and Rosemary Odinga, whom he described as his friends.
Babu spoke warmly about Mama Ida Odinga, saying she has always treated him with kindness. He shared that whenever he visits her, she welcomes him like a son and even serves him food.
Because of this close relationship, Babu said it would be impossible for him to insult her in any way.
His statement comes shortly after Maverick Aoko made controversial posts targeting Mama Ida on social media. These posts caused public debate, with some people linking them directly to Babu Owino.
Maverick Aoko is known to be a strong online supporter of Babu Owino, especially as he prepares for a possible run for Nairobi governor in the 2027 general election.
However, Babu insists that while he appreciates her support, her words are her own.
