CS Wandayi Tells Luos: None Of Your Leaders Has Enough Resources To Beat Ruto in 2027 Elections

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has called on leaders and residents in Nyanza to reconsider decades of opposition politics, signaling a major political shift in the region.

Speaking in Kisumu County on Friday, December 19, 2025, Wandayi urged the community to align politically with President William Ruto, arguing that traditional opposition strategies have lost their relevance.

“We must establish the objective interest of the Luo. Why have we for many years been in opposition? What were we fighting for? Let’s rethink,” Wandayi said, presenting his message as a pragmatic appeal rather than a surrender of principles.

At the heart of Wandayi’s remarks was the assertion that opposition politics in Nyanza no longer offers strategic advantage.

He stated bluntly that no Luo leader currently has the resources, influence, or support to mount a credible campaign against President Ruto and win.

This statement challenges long-standing political traditions in the region, which has historically leaned toward opposition figures, particularly those aligned with Raila Odinga.

“There is nobody who can marshal a campaign against Ruto in Nyanza now and win,” he said, noting that political realities have overtaken historical loyalties.

Wandayi framed his argument as a continuation of the legacy of Raila Odinga, suggesting that past struggles against entrenched power were already concluded by strategic engagement with the government.

“Raila defined what was beneficial to the community. He took us to the government, and that’s where we are now. We must stick with the government. No excuse,” Wandayi added, invoking Odinga’s authority to legitimize alignment with Ruto.

By referencing Odinga, he sought to convince constituents that cooperation with the current administration is both principled and practical.

Other leaders have echoed this message. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga emphasized unity and discipline within political ranks, warning that internal dissent could weaken Nyanza’s influence at the national level.

They argued that cohesion is essential if the region hopes to secure greater representation and leverage in upcoming government decisions and future electoral cycles.
