Kisauni Sub-County detectives have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of brutally murdering Stephen Opello on November 22, 2025, in Chembani, Mtopanga. The arrests follow a tip-off from members of the public that led police to the suspects’ hideout.
The suspects, identified as Julius Otieno Mageta, popularly known as Junior, and his accomplice, Mohammed Omar Hamisi, aka Babu, are believed to have viciously attacked Opello, leaving him in critical condition.

Following the assault, good Samaritans rushed him to Coast General Hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention, Opello succumbed to his injuries, marking a tragic end to the violent encounter.
According to police sources, the duo had planned the attack meticulously, though the motive remains under investigation.

Detectives acting on intelligence reports were able to track down the suspects shortly after the incident, preventing them from fleeing or committing further crimes. Both suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing, pending arraignment in court.The Kisauni Sub-County command has appealed to the public to remain vigilant and continue providing information that could aid law enforcement in curbing violent crimes. They emphasized that community cooperation remains a vital tool in ensuring justice is served and criminals are brought to book.
