REVEALED: Whereabouts disclosed Of Climax Bus Passengers Immediately After Crush That Killed Jirongo

Kenyan newspapers on Thursday, December 18, focused largely on the tragic and controversial death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo.

Several papers highlighted eyewitness accounts, autopsy findings, and ongoing investigations as authorities try to establish what exactly happened on the night of the accident.

According to the Daily Nation, a first responder identified as Peter Kamau gave a detailed account of the moments following the crash.

Kamau, a motorcycle mechanic who lives near the highway at Karai, said he rushed to the scene after hearing a loud bang in the early hours of the morning. The area is known as a frequent accident blackspot.

Kamau said Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz had collided with a Busia-bound Climax Coaches bus. Together with other responders, they tried to rescue the occupant of the car but found the doors locked.

They were forced to use an axe to open the vehicle. Inside, they found Jirongo slumped over the steering wheel and already dead. He was alone in the car.

The responders reportedly found a half-consumed bottle of alcohol and a packet of cigarettes inside the vehicle.

Bus passengers were shaken but uninjured and were transferred to another bus after about ten minutes. Police later arrived, secured the scene, and towed both vehicles away for investigations.

Taifa Leo reported on the autopsy results released by Government pathologist Johansen Oduor. He said Jirongo died from severe injuries consistent with a road accident.

The injuries included broken limbs, multiple fractured ribs, damage to internal organs, a ruptured heart, and a severed spinal cord. Doctors confirmed that the former MP died instantly due to the impact.

Despite these findings, Oduor said more samples were taken for further analysis by the Government Chemist and an expert appointed by the family. He urged the public to remain patient as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, The Star reported that detectives reviewed CCTV footage from a petrol station near the crash site.

The footage shows Jirongo entering the station briefly before making a sudden turn moments before the bus hit his vehicle. The bus driver has since been questioned and released on cash bail as inquiries continue.

In a separate story, The Standard reported the death of Supreme Court Judge Mohammed Ibrahim.

The 69-year-old judge passed away in Nairobi after a long illness, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and dedication to Kenya’s judiciary.
