Wiper Fires Back at Ruto, Accuses President of Stealing Kalonzo's Projects

The Wiper Democratic Movement has strongly responded to recent remarks by President William Ruto, accusing him of falsely taking credit for major development projects initiated by its party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, in the Ukambani region.

In a statement released on Friday, Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdalla said the President was misleading residents of Lower Eastern by claiming ownership of projects that were started long before he assumed office.

At the centre of the dispute is the Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui–Bondoni road, a key infrastructure project serving parts of Makueni and Kitui counties.

According to Wiper, the road was conceived, negotiated, and launched under Kalonzo Musyoka’s leadership when he served as Vice President.

The party stated that Kalonzo officially launched the road project on March 29, 2011, and that financing was secured through the EXIM Bank of China.

Wiper further revealed that Kalonzo personally travelled to Beijing in 2012 to finalise funding arrangements, demonstrating his direct involvement in the project.

Wiper accused President Ruto of deliberately rewriting history for political gain.

“Parading in Ukambani while claiming credit for this road is not only dishonest, it is an insult to the truth,” the party said, adding that development records clearly show the project predates the current administration.

The party went on to accuse the former Jubilee government of sabotaging the road project shortly after taking power in 2013.

According to Wiper, the Uhuru Kenyatta–William Ruto administration allegedly wrote to the Chinese lender seeking to cancel the project, causing major delays.

Wiper also claimed that the same project was later revived in 2017, not out of goodwill, but as a political strategy to win votes during the General Election.

Beyond the road project, Wiper used the opportunity to launch a broader political attack on President Ruto’s leadership style.

The party accused him of deploying online propaganda teams to damage Kalonzo Musyoka’s reputation.

“He has unleashed digital propaganda in an attempt to destroy what money cannot buy — Kalonzo Musyoka’s integrity,” the statement read.

The party further alleged that President Ruto has systematically taken control of key state institutions, leaving the Judiciary as the only remaining independent arm of government.

Wiper warned that the gains achieved during Kenya’s struggle for democracy are under threat, accusing the President of disrespecting the Constitution he swore to protect.

The party claimed that hard-won freedoms from the First and Second Liberations are slowly being eroded.

In contrast, Wiper strongly defended Kalonzo Musyoka’s political record, describing him as one of Kenya’s cleanest leaders.

The party noted that Kalonzo left office in 2013 without corruption scandals, unexplained wealth, or ethical controversies.

“Kalonzo Musyoka exited government with his integrity intact. No scandals, no stolen wealth, no moral stains,” the party stated.

Looking ahead to the 2027 General Elections, Wiper made it clear that Kalonzo will not work with President Ruto’s administration.

The party insisted that their leader will remain in the opposition and challenge Ruto at the ballot.

“We are not joining this government. We are preparing to face it in 2027,” Wiper declared.
