Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticized Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi after the governor failed to appear during his tour of Kiambu County today.
The absence angered Gachagua and members of his team, who expected the governor to join the public engagements.
While addressing residents in Kimbo, Kiambu County, Gachagua accused Governor Wamatangi of abandoning his responsibilities.
He claimed the governor was no longer serving the interests of Kiambu residents but was instead focused on pleasing President William Ruto and his close allies.
Gachagua told the crowd that leadership is about serving the people, not seeking favor from those in power. He alleged that public resources were being redirected for political loyalty rather than development.
“This governor is not working for you,” Gachagua said. “His job now is to praise the President day and night instead of improving your lives.”
He further warned that leaders who betray the Mount Kenya region would face rejection from the people.
According to him, loyalty to the community must come before loyalty to political alliances.
Gachagua urged Governor Wamatangi to join the United Opposition, saying it was the only way he could remain relevant in Mount Kenya politics.
He cautioned that refusing to do so would end any hopes of being recognized as a regional leader.
“I am advising him to join us before it’s too late,” he said. “If he refuses, then he should forget about being a Mount Kenya leader.”
