Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency, Eliud Owalo, has officially announced that he will contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Owalo made the declaration on Sunday during the 106th anniversary commemorating the death of his grandfather, Prophet Johanna Owalo, the founder of the Nomiya Church. The event was held at the church’s headquarters in Oboch, Kisumu County.
Speaking to congregants, Owalo said he had decided to present himself as a presidential candidate, citing his experience in leadership, performance in public service, and ability to deliver results. He described himself as a risk-taker who believes in action rather than political slogans.
“Come 2027, I will submit myself as a candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya,” Owalo said.
His announcement marks a notable political shift, as Owalo has previously worked closely with several senior political figures, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Musalia Mudavadi.

He is currently serving in President William Ruto’s administration, making his declaration likely to attract significant political attention.
Owalo explained that his decision was driven by a desire to focus on development outcomes rather than aligning himself with individual political leaders.

He urged residents of the Nyanza region to embrace what he called “politics of action” and move away from empty rhetoric.
He also encouraged the registration of more political parties in the region, saying this would strengthen multiparty democracy and offer voters more leadership choices.
During his address, Owalo emphasized that the fight against poverty requires strong investment in infrastructure. He pointed to major projects such as dams, railways, roads, and airports as key drivers of economic growth.
He highlighted the importance of expanding water systems, including projects like the Koru–Soin dams, to help control flooding, improve water supply, support power generation, and enhance food security.
Owalo further proposed upgrading Kisumu International Airport to enable cargo handling and allow direct export of fish, agricultural produce, and other goods to international markets.
In addition, he called for the establishment of factories to process livestock products, hides and skins, potatoes, avocado, tea, coffee, and soapstone to promote value addition in the Nyanza region.
He also reiterated his support for the revival of collapsed industries such as sugar, rice, and cotton, which he said could create jobs and restore economic stability.
The commemoration ceremony provided Owalo with a symbolic platform to link his family legacy with his national ambitions, as he positioned himself as a leader focused on development-driven governance ahead of the 2027 elections.
