Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called on Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Trans Nzoia to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor George Natembeya, accusing him of poor leadership and failure to deliver development to residents.
Speaking during a public engagement, Cherargei criticised Natembeya’s administration, alleging that the county has stagnated despite receiving substantial allocations from the national government.
The outspoken senator claimed that key sectors such as roads, health, agriculture and youth empowerment have not seen tangible progress under the current leadership.
According to Cherargei, Trans Nzoia residents are increasingly frustrated by what he termed as “endless political theatrics” instead of service delivery.
He accused the governor of prioritising political confrontations and personal interests at the expense of development projects meant to improve livelihoods in the agriculturally rich county.
The Nandi senator went further to label Natembeya a “rogue governor,” arguing that his conduct and leadership style were unbecoming of a county chief.
Cherargei urged MCAs to exercise their constitutional mandate and hold the governor accountable through impeachment, insisting that leadership must be judged by results, not rhetoric.
Cherargei also claimed that if MCAs move to impeach Natembeya, the Senate would overwhelmingly support the process, provided it follows the law.
He noted that senators are mandated to protect public interest and would not hesitate to remove a governor who fails to meet constitutional and ethical standards.
“The Senate will not shield incompetence or arrogance. If the MCAs present a solid case, senators will have no problem upholding the will of the people of Trans Nzoia,” Cherargei stated.
However, the impeachment call is likely to deepen political tensions in the county, where Natembeya has remained defiant against his critics.
Allies of the governor have previously dismissed such attacks as politically motivated, insisting that his administration is focused on restoring order, accountability and inclusivity.
